Hosting (Cloudflare)

This website is hosted by Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St., San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. When you visit the site, Cloudflare technically processes connection data — in particular your IP address, browser type, operating system, referrer URL, and timestamp — to deliver the site securely and to defend against attacks. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in a secure, performant website). Cloudflare is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework; see cloudflare.com/privacypolicy. Technical log data is retained only as long as necessary for these purposes.

Analytics (Plausible, self-hosted)

We use a self-hosted instance of Plausible Analytics for anonymised, cookie-free traffic analysis. No cookies are set, no personal data is stored, and no data is shared with third parties — analytics data never leaves our own infrastructure, which is why no consent banner is required. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in understanding aggregate site usage). See plausible.io/data-policy for how the software works.

Affiliate Links

We participate in affiliate programs, currently Amazon Associates (Amazon EU S.à r.l. / Amazon.com Services LLC) and Rakuten Advertising (LEGO affiliate program). When you click an affiliate link, you are taken to the merchant's website, where the merchant (e.g. Amazon) may set cookies to attribute a purchase to this site. That processing happens on the merchant's domain and under the merchant's own privacy policy — we receive no personal data about you, only aggregated commission reports. Legal basis for the referral: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in financing this website).

Newsletter (Brevo)

You can subscribe to our weekly email newsletter. We use the double opt-in procedure: after entering your address you receive one confirmation email, and your address is only added to the distribution list once you click the link in it. If you do not confirm, the address is not stored as a subscriber. Legal basis: your consent, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR.

The only mandatory data is your email address. We also record the time of sign-up, the time of confirmation and the page the sign-up came from, in order to document the consent as required by Art. 7(1) GDPR and to see which parts of the site the subscription came from. Legal basis for this logging: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in being able to prove a valid consent).

The newsletter is sent via Brevo (Sendinblue GmbH, Köpenicker Straße 126, 10179 Berlin, Germany), which processes your data on our behalf as a processor under a data processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR. Brevo also produces aggregate statistics on delivery and opening of our emails. We do not sell or otherwise pass on your address. See brevo.com/legal/privacypolicy for their own privacy policy.

You can withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future — every issue contains a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can also write to us at the address in the legal disclosure above. After unsubscribing, your address is removed from the distribution list; we retain the consent record only for as long as needed to defend against claims.

Embedded Videos (YouTube)

Videos are embedded with a two-click solution: no connection to Google/YouTube is established when a page loads — preview images are served from our own site, and the video (loaded from the privacy-enhanced youtube-nocookie.com domain) only starts after you actively click play. From that moment, YouTube's own privacy policy applies. Legal basis: your consent expressed by clicking play, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR.

Product and article images come from three sources: our own photography, official manufacturer press images (used with permission and marked with a source credit), and — where neither is available — illustrative images created with AI tools (Google Gemini). AI-generated images are used solely for illustrative and editorial purposes and are not intended to depict real people, copyrighted characters, or trademarked assets; any similarity is purely coincidental. Should you have a justified concern regarding a specific image, please contact us and we will promptly review and if necessary replace the content.
