Production-wise, the ambition checks out: 2D animation from French studio La Chouette Compagnie with art direction pulling from Mœbius-style surrealism and ’90s anime, composer Jeremy Zuckerman back on score duty, and a supporting cast including Major Curda as airbender companion Jae, plus Sakina Jaffrey, Darren Barnet, Dianne Doan, and Akshay Khanna. Konietzko’s own line on the shift: “It’s something totally different… it still feels like Avatar, but the world is very different.” That’s not a marketing hedge — the premise confirms it.
