LEGO Super Mario Finally Gets Minifigures

LEGO and Nintendo just answered the question Super Mario fans have been asking since 2020: where are the minifigures? At gamescom in Cologne, The LEGO Group revealed eight new Super Mario sets, moving the theme away from the electronic big-fig Mario and into proper minifigure-scale roleplay for the first time. They arrive January 1, 2027.

Why It Matters for Dads

This is the theme finally growing up in the right direction. The old interactive Mario figure was a clever piece of engineering, but it was a single expensive centerpiece, not something a kid could actually play Mario with. Minifigures change that: Mario, Luigi, Fire Mario, Fire Luigi, Bowser, Bowser Jr., Toad and a big-fig Bowser now come in eight sets that range from a €9.99 pocket-money pipe gag to the €99.99 Fire Mario & Bowser’s Castle (72060), where Peach needs rescuing from a fortress defended by lava balls and hidden traps.

The three Mario Kart sets are the smart move here — Mario Kart World is the game actually running in most households with a Switch 2 right now, and turning that into buildable karts with shell launchers is an easy sell. Two sets, Luigi & Bowser Jr.’s Race (72056) and Yoshi at Mario’s House (72057), are rated ages 4+, the youngest LEGO Super Mario has ever gone — genuinely useful if our Mario Kart Standard Kart (72037) has always been more “look, don’t touch” than a real toy for a small kid.

Eight sets span $9.99 to $99.99. Mario’s Pipe Jump (72052, 61 pieces) is the cheapest; Fire Mario & Bowser’s Castle (72060, 850 pieces) is the flagship at $99.99 / 89.99 GBP / 99.99 EUR.

Are the new LEGO Super Mario sets good for younger kids?
