Amazon Is Reportedly Close to Ordering a Clone Saga Series

Amazon MGM is “closing in on an order” for a Spider-Man series based on the Clone Saga, the storyline that scrambled Spider-Man’s comics in the 1990s, according to a Deadline report on Tuesday. It arrives three weeks after Prime Video cancelled Spider-Noir, and it is worth reading as a report, not an announcement: nothing has been ordered yet.

What the Clone Saga Is, and Why the Details Are Shaky

Ben Reilly first showed up as a one-off character in the 1970s and returned in the 1990s, when Marvel revealed that he was the original Spider-Man and Peter Parker the clone. Marvel reversed that quickly, which is much of why the storyline has the reputation it has. Kaine, a flawed clone of Peter, was its antagonist. Here he and Ben are the protagonists.

Deadline’s sources disagreed about the plot. Some described Ben and Kaine coming to terms with being clones while fighting other clones. Others said their origins could be changed, even down to new names. Rights are part of the picture too: Deadline noted that Spider-Noir had to change its lead from Peter Parker to Ben Reilly because of “rights carveouts”, so Peter himself may not be available to this show either.

That last point matters if you are choosing what to watch with a family. Our Spider-Noir review gave that show 4 out of 5, and it was TV-14 and meant it. Nothing is known about this one’s tone or rating, so the safe assumption is that it is not the Spider-Man you put on for a small child. Until then, our best Spider-Man ranked for dads guide sorts the versions by who is in the room, and Spider-Noir’s eight finished episodes are still streaming on Prime Video.

What’s Next

An actual order, a title and a cast are the next things to wait for, and the reporting adds that it would also air on Amazon’s MGM+ channel. The one date already fixed in Spider-Man’s calendar is Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse on 18 June 2027, and that is the next Spider-Man release with an actual date.

The Dadnology Take

Amazon cancelled a well-reviewed Spider-Man show this month and is already reaching for the storyline fans remember as a mess. I will wait for a real order and a tone before caring. A story about clones asking whether they are real is a better fit for television than most Spider-Man spin-offs, if the show keeps it and does not swap in new names.

Has Amazon ordered a Spider-Man Clone Saga series?

Not officially. Deadline reports that Amazon MGM Studios is closing in on a series order. Nothing has been formally announced, and there is no title, cast or release date yet.

Who is making the Spider-Man Clone Saga series?

Kelvin Yu, creator of American Born Chinese, is writing it. Amy Pascal, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are expected to executive produce alongside him. It sits in Sony’s Marvel universe, next to Spider-Noir.

Will Peter Parker be in the Clone Saga series?

Unknown. The reported leads are Ben Reilly and Kaine Parker, and Deadline noted that Spider-Noir had to change its lead from Peter Parker to Ben Reilly because of rights carveouts, so the original Peter may not be usable here.

Kraven the Hunter Review: A Raw 3/5 SSU Action Film

Kraven the Hunter is tonally braver than anything else in the SSU — darker, bloodier, more willing to sit in its own brutality. Aaron Taylor-Johnson commits fully. The script doesn't match his commitment. Real action highlights, weak connective tissue. A fair 3/5.
