Blue Eye Samurai Season 3 confirmed as the final season

Netflix gives blue Eye Samurai an ending, not a cancellation

Netflix confirmed at Anime NYC that Blue Eye Samurai will return for a third season and that it will be the show’s last. Season 2 arrives in January 2027, the finale targets 2028, and the renewal and the ending were announced in the same breath. That framing is the whole story — streaming animation usually finds out it is over after the fact.

Why it matters for dads

Two practical things, and the first one is a warning.

This is not a show to put on with the kids in the room. Blue Eye Samurai is adult animation in the literal sense — a revenge story in Edo-period Japan with graphic violence and explicit content. Beautiful stylised animation is a magnet for a nine-year-old wandering through the living room, and the thumbnail gives away nothing. If you want gorgeous animation the whole household can watch, the Studio Ghibli films are the safer route, and our best educational shows for kids is the better starting point.

The second thing is the schedule. Season 1 landed in November 2023, so the January 2027 return is a gap of over three years — long enough that most of us will need a rewatch. But Season 3 follows in 2028, roughly a year later. For once a streamer has shown the shape of the whole thing up front, so you can decide now whether to start it rather than committing to something that might be cut off mid-story. The risk with adult streaming animation has never been quality; it is being three seasons into something that gets quietly binned.

What’s next

The Season 2 trailer is out; no episode count is confirmed for either remaining season. January 2027 is also when Ahsoka Season 2 arrives — a crowded month for anyone with limited evening hours.

When does Blue Eye Samurai season 2 come out?

January 2027 on Netflix, confirmed alongside a trailer at Anime NYC. That is a little over three years after the first season, which landed in November 2023.

Is Blue Eye Samurai ending?

Yes, but by design rather than by cancellation. Netflix renewed it for a third season and confirmed at the same time that it will be the last, with a 2028 target. The show gets to write its own ending, which is not how most streaming animation goes.

Is Blue Eye Samurai suitable for kids?

No. It is adult animation in the real sense - graphic violence, sexual content and a revenge story built around brutality. The animation style attracts curious children and the content is emphatically not for them. Treat it as a show for after bedtime.
