The First LEGO Dragon Ball Set Is Shenron, Kid Goku and a Cloud

LEGO has announced its first Dragon Ball set: Icons Dragon Ball Shenron & Goku (11390), 1,764 pieces at $179.99, out for LEGO Insiders on 1 November and for everyone on 4 November. It is the first product from the Toei Animation partnership LEGO teased on 22 September, and it settles the questions the teaser left open: set number, size and price.

Why It Matters for Dads

Shenron rises out of seven translucent Dragon Balls on clear stands above a dedicated Dragon Ball display plaque, and Kid Goku rides the Kintoun, the Flying Nimbus, on a transparent dynamic arm. The figure can also be detached to stand directly on the base alongside the Dragon Balls. That gives you options between an aerial battle pose and a grounded display.

The leaks were close and slightly wrong in our favour. They said roughly 1,760 pieces and about $200; the real set has four pieces more and costs about twenty dollars less. At $179.99 for 1,764 pieces it works out to around ten cents a brick, and since it is rated 18+ it is a display piece for the shelf rather than something a seven-year-old will swoosh around the living room. A Dragon Ball-obsessed kid can absolutely help build it, but it belongs on your shelf.

If you want to see how an anime line settles onto the LEGO shelf after its first wave, LEGO One Piece is the reference, and our best LEGO One Piece sets roundup shows the pattern: a display flagship first, playable sets around it. Dragon Ball starts with only the flagship. For the wider 18+ picture, our best LEGO sets for adults lists what else is competing for that shelf space, and you can see the set itself on LEGO.com.

What’s Next

LEGO says the partnership grows in 2027 with additional Dragon Ball sets, and has not said which characters or eras they cover. Until 1 November this is an announcement and nothing more: nobody has built it, so there is no verdict on the build itself. It is a day-one buy in this house, and a proper review with our own photos follows once it arrives.

The Dadnology Take

This is the set I was hoping for. Kid Goku on the Nimbus is the original series, the one before Z, and it is a braver opening than another Saiyan-saga showpiece would have been. The price is easier to accept than the roughly $200 the leaks suggested; the limit is one figure and one pose. What I will be watching is whether the 2027 sets reach for more of those early years.

When does LEGO Dragon Ball Shenron & Goku (11390) come out?

LEGO Insiders get early access on 1 November 2026 and the general release is 4 November 2026.

How much does the LEGO Dragon Ball set cost and how many pieces does it have?

$179.99 / £129.99 / €139.99 for 1,764 pieces. LEGO lists the set as 18+.

Is the LEGO Dragon Ball set good for kids?

It is rated 18+ and built as a display set with one minifigure, so it is aimed at adult fans. A child who loves Dragon Ball can help build it, but it is not a playset. Our full verdict comes with the review.
