Turok Is Back, and It’s Bringing Friends

Sony’s State of Play Japan broadcast gave Saber Interactive’s Turok: Origins its first real gameplay showing, nearly two years after the initial reveal - and it confirmed this is a proper prequel to the 1997 classic, not just a nostalgia skin. It’s due Spring 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.

Why It Matters for Dads

The original Turok: Dinosaur Hunter was a Lost Valley of prehistoric threats; Origins widens that into dinosaurs and an alien race called Xenia, spread across multiple planets while a small warrior order tries to hold the line. The trailer showed three classes - a shield-tank, a scout and a ranged specialist - each with its own skill tree, plus DNA absorbed from downed enemies feeding progression, and free switching between first- and third-person combat depending on the moment. None of that is filler: it’s the difference between “one more retro shooter” and something with actual systems to dig into over a few months.

The part worth circling on a family calendar is the drop-in, drop-out co-op - up to four players per today’s reveal, playable across single-player campaign missions too.
