This week at a glance
One release matters this week and it is the one most households will ask for: Minecraft Switch 2 Edition on Tuesday. Halloween Saturday is the excuse to play Luigi’s Mansion 3 together, and if the PS5 is your console, God of War Ragnarök is the sure thing.
What we’d play this week
Top tip of the week: Minecraft Switch 2 Edition
Minecraft Switch 2 Edition — Switch 2, Tuesday October 27. Mojang’s own Switch 2-native build rather than the old version running through backward compatibility. It is my pick of the week, and for a house with a Minecraft-obsessed kid it is the easiest purchase decision on the calendar. If you already own the game on another system, check what the Switch 2 version costs you before buying it again. You need a Switch 2 for it.
With the family: Luigi’s Mansion 3 (5/5)
Luigi’s Mansion 3 — Switch and Switch 2. Halloween week, and nothing beats a family-friendly ghost hunt that never actually scares anyone under eight. It earned a perfect 5 from us, and you can get it here.
From the backlog: God of War Ragnarök (4.5/5)
God of War Ragnarök — PS5. If you would rather bet on a sure thing than a brand-new release, this is the safest big, bold PS5 epic already sitting on the shelf, and a 4.5 from us. It is a mature game, so it is for after bedtime, and it suits the week when the kids are busy with candy and costumes. Get it on PS5 here.
Still going strong: It Takes Two on Switch 2
It Takes Two — Switch 2. Already the site’s top-rated co-op game and now on Switch 2 too, so the Halloween weekend has a two-player option as well.
The whole of October is laid out in Gears of War goes back to day one, plus October games worth it, and every date is on our release calendar, with the picks we would actually spend an evening on at the top.
