Home Assistant is the one piece of software in this house that everything else answers to. Not a vendor's cloud, not a subscription, not an app that might get sunset next year — a local-first brain that runs on our own hardware and keeps working when the internet doesn't.

That's the whole reason it's here. A smart home is only "smart" if it's reliable, and reliability means local control. When motion lights fire in under 200ms, when the bedtime scene runs whether or not a server in another country is having a bad day, when the family stops asking "is the smart home working?" because it just *is* — that's the bar Home Assistant clears every day. It unifies Philips Hue, Ring, Zigbee, Z-Wave, Matter, Wi-Fi devices and cameras into one calm dashboard, and it does it without ever asking permission to dim your hallway lights.

We run it on official Home Assistant hardware and on a Raspberry Pi with a Zigbee coordinator, and we manage the YAML with an AI co-pilot — carefully, locally, and on our own terms. We don't trust Home Assistant because it's free. We trust it because, after months of daily family use, it has earned the most boring compliment a smart home can get: it just works.
