DC Universe

DCEU · New DCU · Nolan Trilogy · Elseworlds. All Reviewed.

Four separate DC universes, all reviewed. The Christopher Nolan trilogy — Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises — is the greatest DC cinema ever made and the benchmark everything since has been measured against. The old DC Extended Universe ran 16 films from Man of Steel to Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. James Gunn's new DC Universe launched in 2025 with Superman and is already the most coherent creative vision the franchise has had. And DC Elseworlds — the standalone auteur arm — produced The Batman, The Penguin, and the Joker films, each operating entirely outside continuity obligations.

We do not score DC films on a curve. Batman Begins is a 10. The Dark Knight is a 9. The Batman is a 7. Joker: Folie a Deux is a 5. Wonder Woman 1984 is a 5. These are honest ratings from someone who has watched DC cinema across its entire modern run and knows what good looks like.

The Batman Arkham games are here because Rocksteady's trilogy is the benchmark for superhero gaming — and because the FreeFlow combat system they invented in 2009 is still being borrowed and not credited.

Thematic Pillars

🎛️ The Dadnology DC Standard

Batman Begins is a 10. The Dark Knight is a 9. Wonder Woman (2017) is a 9. Wonder Woman 1984 is a 5. Joker: Folie a Deux is a 5. The Penguin is an 8. We do not give DC films credit for having the logo. If it is great, we say so. If it wastes its premise, we say that too.
